Classic deck shoes by Asahi
This time we will be introducing Asahi's deck shoes ASAHI 041 NAVY. Deck shoes are shoes for use on the deck of ships such as yachts and boats. If you slip on the deck, you may fall into the sea, which can be life-threatening, so various measures have been taken to prevent slipping even on wet decks. The top of the rubber band is made of soft rubber that changes its shape to match the shape of your foot, and the outsole has wavy cuts, so you can firmly grip the ground with each step. It provides a comfortable fit that feels like it sticks to your feet.
The toes are made of navy canvas. Deck shoes were originally meant to be worn barefoot, so of course you can wear them barefoot, but if you have low-cut shoes, you can enjoy coordinating them with socks.
Made using vulcanized method
These deck shoes are based on American-made deck shoes from the 1970s, and are made in the 1980s using a last with a beautiful shape from that time. Manufactured in part by skilled craftsmen in Japan. The canvas upper and rubber sole are made using a vulcanized manufacturing method that creates a chemical reaction by applying heat and pressure of nearly 120 degrees. Although this vulcanized manufacturing method can significantly increase the strength and elasticity of the shoe's upper and sole, it is a rare manufacturing method that can only be used in a limited number of factories in Japan, as it requires the hands of skilled craftsmen. .
Because these durable shoes are made using the vulcanized method, you can also wash them. Please wash your hands with room temperature to slightly warm water. Even if you've been shying away from canvas sneakers because they tend to get dirty, this is a pair you should pick up.
From a long-established store that supported Japanese shoe culture
Asahi is the shoe brand of Asahi Shoes, a shoe manufacturer that has supported Japanese shoe culture for over 120 years since its founding in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture in 1892. Asahi Shoes began when the founder, Tokujiro Ishibashi, founded Shimaya, a tailoring business that became the predecessor of the current company, and the business was passed on to his two sons. In 1907, they realized the inefficiency of the tailoring business, which produced miscellaneous items such as shirts, pants, and tabi socks, so in 1907 they changed the Shimaya business to specialize in tabi socks. The company expanded by introducing electric motors and integrated production starting from cotton cloth, and established its own factory. The stick-on jikatabi (tabi with a rubber sole) that they developed became popular, and the company expanded even further. For this production, it would have been unprofitable to purchase and process rubber, so we decided to carry out integrated production starting with rubber in-house. This led to the production of shoes today. Asahi is an independent brand that has become a separate line because we want to provide more shoes that can be worn by both men and women, such as deck shoes and slip-ons made by Asahi Shoes.
