The dyed fabric called Azumaki is a one-of-a-kind fabric created by a collaboration between a fabric wholesaler in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, and a dye factory in Sumida Ward.

Back in the Edo period, dyeing was done by putting the fabric and dye (plants, etc.) together in an iron pot in the Goemon bath and boiling it out. The soft texture and atmospheric color unevenness created by this processing technique, known as ``kiln ware'', are textures that cannot be achieved through mass production. Higashi-daki uses a drum-shaped dye kettle, which is much smaller than the kettles used in the normal dyeing process, in order to recreate the environment of that time. It is said that the fabric is rubbed together many times in a small pot, gradually becoming softer than the fabric before dyeing.

Even though many years have passed since the beginning of the process, the difficulties of producing Todaki fabric, which can only be dyed in small quantities at a time and are affected by temperature and humidity, have not changed much. It is up to the craftsman to adjust the condition of the pot, which requires a huge amount of manpower and effort, but the softness and comfort of the dyed fabric, as well as the natural texture and coloring, cannot be seen in mass-produced clothes.
