A craftsman creates a ring with a special technique, carefully carving out a rough stone called cellulose acetate, and polishing it repeatedly to create a ring full of KISSO's unique charm.

This matte series is named "Frost", and is finished with a sand-beating process that makes it look like it has frost. This is a process that is also used for eyeglass frames, and by spraying fine glass beads on it, a matte and soft nuance is created.

Material called cellulose acetate

The material used is cellulose acetate from Italian company Mazzucchelli. This is a world-leading brand known for its sense of color handmade by Italian artisans and the vividness of its colors that are so clear that they are almost transparent. More than half of the cell-frame glasses released by global fashion brands use acetate sheets from Mazzucchelli.

Nowadays, we only see petroleum-based resins, but the ancestors of resins were made from plants. The challenge to synthetic resins began about 200 years ago. Artificial ivory made from cellulose (cotton) was invented, and this was said to be the world's first resin. In this way, "acetate" was originally made from plant fibers. Although it is called "resin," acetate is not a chemical fiber. It is actually a plant fiber made from cotton and high-purity pulp. As a plant fiber, it is an organic material just like humans, so it is gentle on the skin and has low allergy levels, and it feels warm even when worn directly on the skin. KISSO uses its own techniques developed in eyeglass manufacturing to bond these acetate sheets together, carve them out, and create products through dozens of processes and polishing.
