This flower brooch creates a three-dimensional effect with the unique firmness and flexibility of Noto Jofu. It is a brooch for everyday use that gives off the warmth and elegance of handmade work.
There are various ways to use it, but we recommend combining it with simple items. Just attach it to a plain blouse or tote bag to subtly add individuality to your outfit. It is so light that you will forget you are wearing it, so you can attach it to a thin scarf without putting any strain on the fabric. It is also cool and lovely to attach to a straw hat or kimono obi, combined with the transparency of Noto Jofu.
The spirit of tradition passed down
Noto Jofu (Noto Jofu) continued to improve and develop during the Edo period. Jofu means high-quality linen fabric. Even as kimonos have become less popular since the postwar era, Yamazaki Asaorimono Kobo has passed down hand-dyeing techniques from generation to generation and continues to promote traditional culture and aesthetics. Now, 130 years after its founding, it is the only manufacturer of Notojofu and is sending out hemp textile products with a fine weaving feel to the world in order to pass on the charm of Notojofu to the next generation. Another feature of Notojofu is that it uses ramie, which has been used in Japan since ancient times, rather than the common linen. Ramie is said to have the most firmness and crispness of all natural fibers, and is an excellent material that combines transparency, luster, and lightness.
Notojofu brooches, which add color to your outfit with their gentle colors, are also recommended as gifts. They are Japanese modern accessories that will be appreciated as Mother's Day or birthday gifts for friends.
A new everyday style for Notojofu
Yamazaki Hemp Weaving Studio was founded in 1891 (Meiji 24) as a dyeing shop in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture, a former hemp production area. For over 100 years, it has been the only weaving factory that has inherited the craftsmanship of Notojofu. Although it was designated as an Ishikawa Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property in the early Showa period, Notojofu faced such a difficult time that it was said that "Notojofu is disappearing" as the demand for kimonos decreased due to the trend toward Western clothing.
Even so, many people from other regions visit the factory to learn handicrafts, so in order to pass on the traditional skills that have been preserved for generations to the next generation, the kimono and accessory brand "Notojofu YAMAZAKI NOTOJOFU" was established to propose the value of Notojofu in a new era. Produced by the only weaving workshop in Noto Joufu, "YAMAZAKI NOTOJOFU" operates under the theme of "encountering Noto's traditional hemp textiles with dignified everyday life." Using the kasuri designs and hand-dyeing techniques unique to Joufu, the brand continues to produce hemp textiles that blend into everyday life.
