Choemon Maneki Neko's "Choemon Sitting Cat" is a new type of maneki-neko based on the motif of the special posture that cats show, "Koubako-za". Kobako-za is a posture in which a cat tucks its front paws and curls its back, which is a posture that cats only do when they are relaxed and there are no dangers around.
This adorable cat was created as a cat that brings "peace of mind and safety" in everyday life, business, and the home, and is an irresistible interior for cat lovers. The tucked paws are in relief on the bottom, and when you place it on a glass shelf or acrylic box and look at it from below, you can see the adorable paws. Normally, porcelain dolls need ventilation holes on the bottom due to the nature of the material, but this one is made using a special technique that cleverly hides the ventilation holes so that you can fully enjoy the shape of the cat's paws.
It is also recommended as a business opening gift or relocation gift for those who have started a new life, company managers, or individual business owners. Maneki-neko, which seems to bring good luck and benefits to the home, is recommended as a housewarming gift.
Tradition in the Modern Age
Kamide Choemon Kiln was founded in 1879 in Terai Village, Nomi County, Ishikawa Prefecture (now Terai Town, Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture). It is a long-established Kutani ware kiln with a history of over 135 years, and is a long-established store that produces everything from porcelain molding to painting. The products that are handmade and hand-painted are attractive for their colorful overglaze painting, deep color dyeing, and above all, their durable and beautiful fabric. In recent years, this long-established store, which has been in business for six generations, has started a new initiative and is working on Kutani ware that is adapted to the modern era. It is a product that makes you feel attached to each one by hand, making use of the manufacturing methods of the traditional craft "Kutani ware" while also making use of colors, shapes, and hand-painted designs that suit modern life, as befits a kiln that has been protecting it since its founding in 1879.
Kutani ware, a representative of Japan
Like other pottery, Kutani ware began as a product that was shaped and painted by hand.
During the Edo period, the Maeda family, the feudal lords of Kaga, discovered pottery stone and began making porcelain. They then learned ceramic techniques in Bizen Arita, and expanded into other products such as tea utensils. It is a traditional Japanese craft. Its distinctive feature is that the clear white base is decorated with various patterns, making it easy to use as tableware and pleasing to the eye, and the colored paintings that stand out against the hard, glassy white base of the porcelain are its charm.
Kamide Choemon Kiln is a kiln that has mainly manufactured and sold art and craft items, Japanese restaurant tableware, and everyday tableware, and continues to create products that preserve the traditions of Kutani ware.
Because it is hand-painted, no two pieces are exactly the same. The fact that the paintings change depending on the craftsman who made them and the time of production adds to their value.
Kamide Choemon Kiln insists on hand-painting because they believe there is great potential in the human hand. People are overwhelmed by the warmth, familiarity, flavor, and skill and precision of handmade items. With the belief that "things created by humans have great power to move people's hearts in any era," Kamide Choemon Kiln continues to carefully create and protect hand-painted pottery.
