Traditional crafts from the end of the Edo period
An accessory case made with traditional parquet techniques. Marquetry is a woodworking technique that draws geometric patterns by combining all kinds of wood, and is popular as a traditional craft rooted in Hakone. Yosegi is said to have been created by Ishikawa Jinbe at the end of the Edo period, and has been passed down for nearly 200 years. The way to make it is to cut out the wood according to the pattern and bond them together to make a block of wood called a seed plate. Based on this, the surface is thinly cut and affixed to a wooden product is called “Zuku”, and the seed plate is shaved using a potter's wheel etc. is called “Muku”. Tsukimokkosho combines various colors and wood grain collected from inside and outside the country to create a modern pattern that is based on a traditional pattern but adapted to the modern style.
A small box with a diamond-shaped lid. Although it is small, it is delicately made with fine patterns of marquetry. There are three types of patterns: “Hemp Leaf”, “Aomiha” and “Matsuhishi”, all of which are based on traditional patterns. Due to the subtle color scheme and the strength of the lines, the pattern feels a depth. The color is based on white and is familiar to both Japanese and Western spaces. If you prepare several different colors, it will be a fun interior for your eyes.
