A landscape is one of the typical patterns for Japanese porcelain. Mountains, rivers, and buildings are handpainted with depth even in a single color. Placing bright colors like indigo, red, and green on a white base, it shows the elegance and luxurious traits of Kutani ware.

Kutani ware, the luxurious, colorful porcelain

Kutani ware is porcelain produced in the southern area of Ishikawa Prefecture. The production started in 1655 when the Kaga domain discovered good-quality clay for porcelain in the area and the domain started to support artists and artisans for the porcelain production. While the porcelain was first made for Japanese tea ceremony, the products with stunning patterns with rich colors were soon recognized prestigious and became the symbolic porcelain in the country.

Manufacturing along the history of 135 years

KUTANI CHOEMON is founded in 1879, in Nomi region of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The brand has been produced Kutani ware, the traditional tableware of Ishikawa Prefecture with skilled artisans. The products usually use indigo blue and five colors on white porcelain to express the tradition of Kutani ware. The brand also tries to pursue new patterns for our modern dining. The products are all manufactured in a single studio; the whole process, including forming, painting, firing, and glazing, is operated there.
