A bespoke book stitch made by ponpindo asking for something that fits the life of a more modern “flooring + sofa”, while retaining the goodness and durability of the book stitching cushions handled by ponpindo. Zabu cushion is ready.
Conveying the culture of "sitting on the floor" in Japan
The ponpindo cushion is a lock-stitch cushion made by traditional sewing. Due to the aging of craftsmen and the like, lockstitch cushions, along with their techniques, are now becoming something special that is almost never on the market. In response to this situation, ponpindo's pattern-dyed lock-stitched small cushions are made with craftsmen who want to protect the technology and quality of traditional cushions.
This time, ZUTTO asked for "Specifications for a seamstress that is easy to incorporate, but has high durability." This was the first attempt for a craftsman, and we had various prototypes.
Eliminates the "four-sided bunch" of cushions that create a soft impression, leaving only the center of the thread on the back. We studied what size and shape would be easy to use on a sofa.
In addition, we asked the designer of ponpindo to arrange the traditional Edo Komon pattern, and the design itself was closer to a Western taste, making it easier to use on a daily basis.
The result is the "lock stitch cushion". "Kozabu" means "Kozabushi". While talking about this bespoke story, it was impressive that ponpindo had been calling it `` Kozabu '' all the time, and also talking with the craftsman who interviewed the site where the cushion was made It is not just a cushion, but a traditional Japanese cushion, and this is a factor that strengthens my feelings.
Special design, batting, and fabric
The durable Aizu cotton is used for the surface of the cushion. If you look closely, you can see the unevenness of the thread, which creates depth in color and is a comfortable material with a rough touch.
It is designed by Edo-type dyeing, which ponpindo specializes in. Edo-type dyeing is a technique made from glue glue made from glutinous rice with a pattern carved out of Japanese paper, and designed to match the traditional pattern of Hanakomon, Kusahanamon, and Sankushishi with today's lifestyle. I have done it again.
Cotton stitching cushions made of Indian cotton with excellent heat retention and moisture absorption. The cotton is repeatedly passed through a cotton mill to remove impurities and make the cotton elastic and soft.
The lock stitch cushion held in both hands feels firm thickness and elasticity. When sitting on a sofa, as a backrest when sitting on a chair, on a stool as a chair pad, and as a cushion when sitting on the floor, please incorporate it in your life in such a free way.
Type dyeing that expresses tradition and novelty
ponpindo was founded in 2002 as a studio for making household goods handled by designer Kosaku Ono, who was the founder of the well-established Edo-style dyeing shop "Sarakei", which was founded about 150 years ago. The brand name has the meaning of "Japan's special dish (Ippin)", and products with a modern design that makes use of traditional auspicious patterns have gained high praise both at home and abroad.
Since its inception, we have been designing and producing various products with excellent creators from all over Japan, focusing on dyeing. It is disappearing that old fashionable designs and cultures have been incorporated into everyday clothing. However, it is important to make meaningful manufacturing with effort and make it easy to use in everyday life. . Ponpindo thinks that the continuation of this small attempt connects "tradition" to the present. There is warmth dwelling in the back of the product in the troublesome manual work. Making things that convey this “temperature” is exactly what ponpindo aims for.

Incorporating contemporary design into the handicraft created in Japan's long history, to create a form that can be used casually in everyday life. That is the product of ponpindo. There is the warmth of staying in the back of the product in handwork that takes time and effort properly, and it is the place where ponpindo aims to be the one where this “temperature” is transmitted. ponpindo is based on the dyeing shop of the Edo-style dyeing shop “Sarah”, which was founded in 1867 (Keio 3 years). Die-dyeing, of course not only in technology, but also in the patterns that have been passed down from ancient times, there are patterns that carry an auspicious and patterns that look at the other party. There is a desire of a maker and a buyer in time-consuming manufacturing, it is connected to the user, it is used carefully, and I think that manufacturing will be circulated. Rather than just continuing traditional technology, it is a brand that will be a bridge that will remain in line with the present.
