South American traditional handicrafts

La Guajera Peninsula is far from Bogota, the capital of Colombia in South America. The indigenous peoples living on that island are the Wayu. Up to the present day, I live while protecting my own lifestyle, language and culture. Items of GUANABANA (Guanabana) made mainly of such Waiyu women. In the Wayu tribe, the mother taught her daughter how to knit bags and hammocks, and connected traditional techniques to posterity. Each piece is handmade and skillfully knitted using this inherited technology.

A set of two wayu artisan bracelets are carefully woven with a detailed design and vibrant coloring. For enjoyment of stacking, we combined two of similar colors with different patterns and thickness. It is very light because it has no metal like fasteners like Misanga, so it's easy to forget to wear it. As an accessory for everyday use, you can enjoy fashion without stress. Acrylic yarn is used for the knitting yarn. Acrylic yarn has a better color than cotton and has a higher durability. We select this material because we want it to be used regularly in our daily lives. You can also wash it, so you can wear it without hesitation even during hot weather when you sweat easily.

GUANABANA is a brand founded by Almudena Espinosa in Madrid, Spain in 2007. My mother is from Colombia, so I started using my experience of selling miscellaneous goods and accessories made by South American craftsmen such as the Wayu tribe to apparel shops and lifestyle shops in Spain. The design is made in Spain and all production is made in Colombia. In order for craftsmen to continue making products, we have created items that combine innovative, timeless design with high quality handmade technology, such as bracelets, bags and belts.
