Layering with pullovers and knits is one of the pleasures of dressing for autumn and winter. Layering a woven shirt tends to look a bit too formal, so if you want to create a coordinate with just the right amount of relaxed ease, a cut-and-sew T-shirt is the way to go.

This time, ZUTTO has created two types of T-shirts designed specifically for layering. Many people repurpose a long-sleeve T-shirt originally bought to be worn on its own for layering, but these T-shirts are made from the ground up with layering in mind. For this third installment, we've refined the colors and sizes based on feedback from our customers.   

We paid close attention to making the size and color easy to use.

At ZUTTO, we create a layered T-shirt every season, with the hope that it will help people enjoy their favorite clothes and treasured pieces for even longer. When it comes to wearing clothes for years to come, being able to wear them without tiring of them, and continuing to enjoy fashion as you grow older, are both very important points. Knitwear in particular, being an item that's often cared for and worn over many autumns and winters, can start seeing less use once you feel like you always end up in the same look. That's where the "Supima Oil Cotton Long-Sleeve Layered T-Shirt" comes in, offering an easy way to add some variation.

The key feature is the overlock-finished hem and cuffs, a detail often seen in the seams of vintage T-shirts. Rather than a plain long-sleeve tee showing through, this gives off a casual, effortlessly put-together impression. The sleeve and body lengths are made longer than a typical cut-and-sew shirt so that they peek out when layered, but the shirt also works well on its own as a long-sleeve T-shirt at the start of autumn.

A material that's gentle on both your skin and the planet

Since this layered T-shirt sits directly against the skin, we chose the material with comfort in mind as well. We settled on Supima oil cotton, known for its soft, worn-in feel reminiscent of secondhand clothing.

Supima cotton refers to a premium cotton variety with a long fiber length of 35mm or more. In general, the longer the cotton fiber, the higher its quality, and Supima cotton represents the top grade.

This time, we used a fabric made from 100% reclaimed fiber of this premium American Supima cotton — gentle on both the environment and your skin. "Reclaimed fiber" refers to the fine cotton fibers that come out during the spinning process; because these fibers are short, much of it is often used as filling for cushions or simply discarded. By respinning it into yarn using a special technique, it's been transformed into a fabric with wonderful texture.

Crew neck and mock neck

We offer two shapes: crew neck and mock neck.

Crew neck

With its basic shape, the crew neck pairs effortlessly with cardigans, knits and other autumn-winter staples, no matter what you wear it with. It's not just for showing off as a layered T-shirt, but also comes in handy as an inner layer on chillier days.

Mock neck

The mock neck is great for those times when you want a different color peeking out at the neckline. It's designed so that a hint of the T-shirt shows even when you wear a knit or sweatshirt over it. It also pairs well with tops that have an open neckline, such as V-necks, giving even a sweeter outfit a touch of casual, understated polish. Since the mock neck is comfortable and free of any tightness, it's also a good option for those who find turtlenecks too constricting.

Layered Coordinate Gallery

We've prepared three colors: WHITE, CHARCOAL, and TOP GREY. While WHITE adds a relaxed touch and creates contrast in an outfit, CHARCOAL and TOP GREY serve to bring out the layered knits and sweatshirts worn over them. Since both are easy to pair with anything, it's nice to have both colors on hand.

The mock neck is perfect as an inner layer beneath a knit cardigan, or paired with knits and pullovers that have a moderately open neckline. Since it keeps the neckline from looking too plain, it's a handy shape for those who don't usually wear necklaces.
