As the seasons change, rainy days become more frequent, and with Golden Week just around the corner, changes in weather while traveling are always a concern. It's also useful for pollen protection, and comes in handy through the coming tsuyu (rainy season) as well—we're talking about the Denmark-born rainwear brand RAINS.

Practical and fashionable. RAINS was born in a country of rain

"RAINS" was born in 2012 in Denmark, a country of rain with 121 rainy days a year.

On rainy days, people can feel reluctant to go outside, or find their mood turning gloomy. Raincoats tend to be purely practical and convenient, but lacking in style—something young people don't really want to wear. With this in mind, RAINS was created to flip the negative image that clings to rainy days into something positive, giving practical raincoats a sense of fun and fashion so that rainy days could be enjoyed.

The brand is especially popular in cities across Europe like Paris and London, and thanks to its stylish look, its pieces are worn year-round—not just on rainy days, but on sunny ones too.

The material most often used by RAINS is a soft polyester fabric with a smooth surface that also has a slight sense of elasticity.

Thanks to its polyurethane coating, even those who dislike the stiff, bulky feel typical of raincoats can wear this fabric with ease. The smooth surface also makes it easy to brush off pollen, so it's a great outerwear choice for pollen protection too.

RAINS: Handy as pollen protection and as a cycling outer layer

With its smooth surface, RAINS is convenient not only as an outer layer for pollen protection, as introduced earlier, but also as a cycling outer layer during chilly early spring days. There are currently 4 styles available.

A raincoat is a necessity as rainfall increases, whether during the rainy season or during the typhoon season in autumn.

If it has a hood, you can get by without an umbrella in light rain.

For cycling, we recommend this Cape. Unlike a regular raincoat, you don't put your arms through sleeves, so it's designed with plenty of room—you can throw it over a bulky coat, or wear it over a shoulder bag or backpack.

By hooking your thumbs through the loops at the hem while gripping the bicycle handlebars, it protects you from rain coming from the front.

And then there's the Kano Overshirt, which uses a different material from the other standard coats.

This is the thinnest of the RAINS outerwear items introduced here. It uses a shell material that is highly breathable among nylon materials, offering excellent wind resistance, warmth, and stretch—a fabric suited for outdoor wear.

On the left is the Kano Overshirt. Unlike the other RAINS outerwear, which has no sheerness, this shirt jacket has a slight sheerness and is extremely lightweight.

Owning just one lets you wear it either as an outer layer or as a middle layer when layering, providing moderate protection against wind, rain, and snow. Its high breathability also prevents stuffiness, making it a piece that will come in handy as temperatures rise in the coming season.
