Denby began in 1809 when clay was discovered during road construction in Derbyshire, central England. Founder William Bourne, who was convinced of the high quality of the clay, established the pottery brand. Initially, it mainly manufactured bottles, but after World War II, it shifted to full-scale manufacturing of tableware.
