Sakae Kinran, the company behind ZAF, is a Buddhist altar equipment manufacturer that has been producing woven Buddhist altar equipment for temples since its founding. Located in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, a Buddhist altar equipment production area, the company boasts a top-class market share for zazen futons made by craftsmen using traditional methods.

In 2018, Takezawa, the second-generation owner of Sakae Kinran, started ZAF, a factory brand of zazen cushions. They manufacture traditional zazen and meditation cushions made using the same method as the zazen futons used by monks when sitting in zazen.
