Merino wool has four main characteristics

Merino wool is the world's highest quality super microfiber with a thickness of 17 to 19 microns. The fiber is very fine, thin and soft and gentle on the skin, so it does not have the tingling sensation of ordinary wool.

2. Excellent breathability / humidity control
Since the fiber itself has high hygroscopicity, it absorbs the water vapor generated by the body from the stage before sweating and dissipates it into the atmosphere. The sweat that you have been exercising is sucked up and vaporized by capillarity, so your skin is always kept dry and comfortable.

3. Ideal temperature control
When it is cold, when it absorbs the moisture on the surface of the skin, the heat of adsorption and body temperature are stored in the many air pockets created by the ultrafine fibers to keep it warm. The opportunity was the encounter with merino wool

Icebreaker founded in 1994. It all started when the founder, JEREMY MOON, introduced her lover and met a merino sheep farmer. JEREMY MOON has been kayaking for a long time and was fed up with the breathability and unique odors of outdoor clothing at the time. At that time, chemical fibers were the mainstream of outdoor wear, and few people were interested in merino wool, but the 100% merino wool T-shirts handed over by farmers are light, soft and breathable, and smell. I learned about the characteristics of merino wool, which is hard to stick to, and I started to want to make stress-free clothing for playing various sports. The company I was working for at that time quit and started using my savings to make a total of 5 types of tops 4 types including T-shirts and leggings 1 type with a loan from a bank.

The raw material for the Icebreaker is the raw wool of Merino sheep raised at an altitude of 1,800 m in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. A merino sheep that lives in harsh highlands where the temperature changes drastically. In the summer when the temperature reaches 35 degrees Celsius, the high breathability of fine wool keeps the sheep's body temperature appropriate, and in the winter the thick wool layer is -20 degrees Celsius. It protects the sheep's body from the cold. Merino wool with high functionality created by such nature.
