The tea utensils made of Hizen Yoshida porcelain have a somewhat nostalgic feel with the evenly arranged polka dot design.
What makes this teapot different from a regular teapot is the beautifully dyed large polka dot pattern. Polka-dot tableware was produced in large numbers during the period of rapid economic growth around 1965, but the amount of production gradually decreased due to the labor involved in hand-carving the polka-dot patterns one by one. Currently, only Soesen Seitosho, the kiln that produces the Hizen Yoshida polka dot tableware, is the only one that handles polka dot tableware. By finely adjusting the placement and color of the polka dots, it has become a sophisticated design that fits the modern dining table.
Plump and round
A set of a round earthenware teapot and a teacup, which are carefully hand-carved and have good drainage for tea. While mass-produced polka dot tableware is made by pasting stickers, Soesen Seitosho draws each circle by hand using a technique called “scraping”. The indigo part of the bottom of the tableware is made uniform in size, depth, and the feeling of the circles. Instead, it makes you feel the organic fluctuations that humans feel unconsciously. When you wrap the vessel with your fingers or palm, the slight indentation that you touch becomes a rhythm, and it is a vessel that appeals to the sense of touch. The shape of the clay pot is easy to hold and fits comfortably in your hand. You can see why it has been loved for a long time in the polka dot teapot tea room.

Polka dot pattern from the first generation
Hizen Yoshida ware, which flourished in the Edo period and continues to the present day. In the Yoshida district of Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture, where the production area was, under the encouragement of the ceramic industry by the feudal lord of the Edo period, porcelain, mainly for daily use, was actively fired and has continued to develop independently. Among them, Soe Sensei Tosho was founded by splitting off from the original Soe Sei Tosho. Since 1955, it has been making hand-carved polka dot tea utensils, and is currently the only polka dot kiln that remains. It's a pottery factory. Among the techniques of Hizen Yoshida ware, GOSU has inherited the dark Gosu technique, and Soe Sensei Tosho has inherited the technique of producing the polka dot pattern.
Born and prospered near Ureshino, one of Japan's three major tea-producing areas, the popularity of Hizen Yoshida ware from tea utensils spread throughout the country. In particular, the polka dot pattern is also positioned as a symbol of the Japanese dining table, and is a pattern that is loved by many people around the world. Yoshida ware has been highly evaluated by many people and has been certified as a good design and long life design, and teacups and teapots are used in inns, hotels, public facilities, etc., and have become synonymous with Yoshida ware. The first generation of Soesen Seitojo was the main manufacturer of the polka dot pattern. Currently, the third generation has taken over and is still handcrafting this charming polka dot pattern to deliver the real thing to us.
