Pottery markets are all about great deals and bargains that you can find by visiting the production areas.
We found them in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture. This is a major pottery production area in Kyushu, and since 1580, it has become a major pottery production area due to the production of pottery stone there. Hasami ware boasts a 16% share of the national market share in terms of daily tableware shipments, but until around 2000, the area was home to many kilns that produced Arita ware. When the area saw no future in traditional manufacturing due to social reasons in a production area with a division of labor, Nishikai Toki Co., Ltd., which has supported manufacturing by standing between each workshop and people's lives, took the lead to start Hasami ware.
Hasami ware has recently been attracting a lot of attention in the media, and is often seen in stylish tableware, but behind this modern tableware lies a history of over 400 years, and the techniques used to produce tableware, arts and crafts, etc. Currently, Hasami ware is centered on the beauty of white porcelain and delicate blue and white painting with gosu (indigo blue). However, inside the storehouse, Arita ware has been made by improving its techniques in response to various requests, so it is a place where you can get a glimpse of the wide variety of techniques and long history of the production area.
※Notes about the bargain sale※

Growing into Antiques
What we are introducing this time are only a few of the items in the history of Hasami ware that can no longer be seen today. In modern times, there are many products that would not be worth the time, technology, and material costs to produce the same quality, so these are treasure-like products that give a sense of Japan's vibrant era.
◇Kozome Sansui Small Lid
A hand-painted masterpiece made in the 1980s by a pottery manufacturer that has been in business since the Meiji era. The landscape pattern is delicate and beautiful, and the shades of the gosu underglaze indigo paint speak of the craftsmanship. At the beginning of the Meiji era, the first generation Kusaba Izumimasu started Kusayama Kiln, a red-painted shop that mainly produced large plates and vases for export in the Nakataru area of Arita Town. This pottery factory converted from an akae-ya to a kiln, and has produced many dishes such as kappo tableware, general tableware, chopstick rests, rice bowls, and teacups that never get old, as well as dishes for serving food and everyday use.
In the past, they produced many vases and large plates for overseas markets, but they are no longer producing pottery, so this is a valuable find. Landscapes have a charm that can only be created by hand, and it is difficult to reproduce the works of skilled craftsmen.
It can be used to hold small sweets and serve tea, or to store sugar cubes for guests, or as a condiment container for meals. It is also great as a case for accessories and accessories. It is also good to store fragrant items and open the lid before guests arrive.
◇Tetsusuna Ume-gata Mouth Varied Plate
Arita ware from the 1980s. This is a gorgeous Tomiemon plate with blue and white porcelain, colored painting, and hand-painted gold. The delicate design of the tsuyukusa with colored painting on the blue and white porcelain and the beautiful shades of the leaves create a Japanese atmosphere. Usually, round or square tableware is served on the dining table, but if you incorporate this plum-shaped dish, your usual menu will look different. The brown and green colors that are common in Japanese side dishes stand out, and the plum-shaped dish makes the dishes look different, like those served in a traditional restaurant, and you can feel the power of the tableware. It is also good as an individual dish when surrounding a large dish, and is a plate that you would want to use for entertaining guests, New Year's, and sushi parties. Since Tomiemon is no longer in production, this plate is a great way to enjoy the technique of thickening with your eyes, with white porcelain, plum-shaped, and tsuyukusa painting, and a small amount of food. It seems like you can experience the feeling of a traditional Japanese restaurant at home, so it is also recommended for New Year's when you serve New Year's dishes.
◇Old Imari Multi-purpose Bowl
This is Arita ware from the 1990s. It is a dish by Shinwa Sadari. This old pottery has been in business for five generations since its founding, and has produced a variety of tableware over the years, from traditional Japanese cuisine to commercial use. This versatile bowl with eye-catching, gorgeous side painting features auspicious pine and plum motifs, making it perfect for celebrations and special occasions. It is easy to use on a daily basis, and will brighten up your table when you serve stews, rice bowls, a few noodles, Japanese sweets, or fruit. It is a great bowl for a small amount of soba or udon noodles for a midnight snack, or even for sweets such as karinto and rice crackers.
This durable antique ceramic is part of the Hasami ware treasure series, and if you use it daily for a long time, it will go from vintage to antique in the next 40 years.
