Since socks are consumables, we tend to think of them as disposable and increase the quantity (number) rather than the quality, but when it really counts - for example, when going to outdoor activities such as hiking or camping - it's reassuring to have high-quality socks with functionality.
Fine Gauge Crew Socks are socks that make it easy to incorporate the excellent functionality of merino wool into your daily life. They are made of fine gauge knit with a delicate knitting method that gives them a pleasant finish. The fine gauge knit material is made of merino wool with the addition of nylon and polyurethane, which improves the strength and elasticity against wear and tear despite its thinness. The crew length is easy to use, so they can be used in a wide range of situations, from casual everyday use to business situations.
There are four main advantages of merino wool
1. Soft to the touch
Merino wool is the world's highest quality super microfiber with a thickness of 17 to 19 microns, and the fibers are very high quality, thin, soft, and gentle on the skin, so there is no prickly feeling like ordinary wool.
2. Excellent breathability/humidity control
The fiber itself has high moisture absorption properties, so it absorbs water vapor emitted by the body before sweating and dissipates it into the atmosphere. Sweat produced during exercise is sucked up and evaporated by capillary action, so the skin is always kept dry and comfortable.
3. Ideal temperature regulation
When it is cold, when absorbing moisture on the surface of the skin, the heat of adsorption and body heat are stored in the many air pockets created by the ultra-fine fibers, keeping you warm. On the other hand, when it is hot, the gradual evaporation of sweat cools you down to a comfortable body temperature.
4. Natural antibacterial and deodorizing effect
Sweat contains a mixture of fat and salt, which promotes the growth of bacteria and is also the source of unpleasant odors. Merino wool is a material that is resistant to the adhesion of bacteria and does not easily produce odors.
You want to choose a stress-free material for clothing that comes into direct contact with your skin. Merino wool is a versatile material that is functional according to the season and can be worn comfortably, so it can be used all year round.
Easy to use
Merino wool is easy to care for. There is no need to hand wash or use fabric softener like regular wool, and it can be washed in the washing machine with a regular weak alkaline detergent. Regular washing in the washing machine allows you to use it cleanly at any time, and washing also has the effect of restoring the fabric. Another reason for its ease of use is that it is wrinkle-resistant and returns to its shape without ironing. It is also convenient for traveling.
Merino wool is a material with a high UV protection rate, and even the light-colored version of icebreaker's thinnest product has a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) of 15 or more, and even the medium colors have a UPF of 50 or more. It is also recommended for people who play a lot of sports outside.
In addition, socks that you wear every day are also recommended as a gift without hesitation. It is a daily item that you can never have too many pairs of, and a slightly nice pair of socks that are difficult to choose for yourself will be appreciated by people of all ages and genders, so please choose them as a Christmas gift or thank you gift.
It all started with my encounter with merino wool
icebreaker was founded in 1994. It all began when founder JEREMY MOON met a merino sheep farmer through his girlfriend. JEREMY MOON had been kayaking for a long time and was fed up with the poor breathability and unique smell of outdoor wear at the time. At the time, synthetic fibers were the mainstream in outdoor wear and few people were interested in merino wool, but the farmer gave him a 100% merino wool T-shirt that was light, soft to the touch, breathable, and odorless. After learning about the characteristics of merino wool, he wanted to create stress-free wear for various sports, which is what led to the founding of the company. He quit the company he was working for at the time, received a loan from a bank, and used his own savings to start making a total of five types of tops, including T-shirts, and one type of leggings.
The raw material for icebreaker is the wool of Merino sheep raised at an altitude of 1,800m in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Merino sheep live in harsh highlands where temperature changes are drastic. In summer, when temperatures reach 35 degrees, the fine wool's high breathability keeps the sheep's body temperature at an appropriate level, and in winter, the thick layer of wool protects the sheep from the cold of minus 20 degrees. Merino wool is a highly functional product of nature. It is not made from the latest technical fibers or petroleum, but from the power of nature itself, created by grass, water, and the sun. It is biodegradable and regenerative, making sustainable manufacturing possible.

icebreaker founded in 1994. An outdoor wear brand that takes advantage of New Zealand merino wool. When the founder, JEREMY MOON, met a merino sheep farmer, he incorporated the highly functional merino wool into his clothing and started making things for stress-free outdoor sports. Merino wool from merino sheep, which live in harsh highlands where the temperature changes drastically, has made it possible to produce clothing that is cool in summer and warm in winter, and can be worn comfortably throughout the year. We are making sustainable products by using the power generated by nature, not the functionality created by the latest technology and oil.
