Wood base turned on a lathe

The main body is made of warm, handmade wood base that is carefully turned on a lathe. The wood material is cork. The bright wood color and beautiful grain are attractive. The lathe turning is done by craftsmen from Gato Mikio Shoten. In 1908, in Yamanaka Onsen, Ishikawa Prefecture. Originally founded as a woodworking shop, Gato Mikio Shoten is a Yamanaka lacquerware brand that utilizes advanced lathe turning techniques. The curves created by applying the blade to the rotating block of wood without hesitation are very smooth and soft, and have a gentleness that will fit in any room. It will be a soothing presence wherever you place it, not only on the wall, but also on a shelf, next to a bed, or on a desk. The wood base is coated with urethane paint, which is also used for tableware, so it is resistant to stains and dirt.

The back side has a leather cover. Not only does it look neat from the back, but wrapping the machine in leather also absorbs internal sounds, so you won't hear the ticking of the second hand even in a quiet environment. The leather material is made by effectively utilizing scraps from the process of making leather watch straps.
