This is a masterpiece by a skilled Wajima lacquer craftsman who carefully cuts out the shining mother-of-pearl layer of the shell and inlays it into lacquer and wood using the traditional technique of mother-of-pearl.

Breathing Craftsmanship

The dial of the Hanamocco White/Black Pearl Ladies' watch is made from the shell of the "White Pearl Shell," which produces white pearls. Its soft, transparent milky white color changes to various shades such as blue, purple, and pink depending on the way the light hits it and the angle at which you look at it. It is a material that gives off a fantastic shine.

Rather than simply gluing the shells on, the shells are polished with charcoal from magnolia wood to remove any fine scratches, and then cut into 12 precise pieces and glued together, creating a complex and deep shine. Furthermore, the seams of the shells are cleverly emphasized to create a design that clearly indicates the time as an index.
