Kakunodate DENSHIRO is the brand of cherry bark crafts since 1851. The brand has manufactured handmade containers, especially tea caddies, using natural material for over 150 years.

Effective work of cherry bark

The cherry bark is known to have high resistance against moisture. It is a great advantage to keep tea leaves fresh because tea leaves are easily influenced by temperature, light, and humidity.

Artisans harvest cherry bark in August and September. They literally peel the bark away from the tree and dry for about two years. Cherry bark is an eco-friendly material since it has excellent resilience and is able to reproduce the part where was peeled off.

Then after the dry process, artisans use a wooden mold to form cherry bark into a container. The natural touch, colors, and patterns of the cherry bark remain on the surface. You may be surprised how perfectly the lid would shut.
