Koshu woven long umbrella Kasane

Japan made high quality umbrella

Shiny fabric, classic wooden handle, and 16 ribs that are both beautiful and functional. Introducing the Koshu-ori long umbrella Kasane, a Japanese-made umbrella that will make you want to open it and look at it.

Brightening up a rainy day
Koshu-ori long umbrella kasane made from traditional Koshu-ori fabric. It is a high-quality yarn-dyed fabric woven in Koshu (Yamanashi Prefecture) that boasts high quality and beauty, and is comparable to Nishijin-ori. Even when the umbrella is closed, you can feel the elegance that is unique to Koshu-ori, but when it is unfolded, its beauty stands out even more. This is because the outside and inside are colored in two different colors, which is where the name ``kasane'' comes from. Different colored threads are used on the front and back, and the threads on the back side are slightly visible on the front side. This overlapping of colors creates a deep color that is different from monochromatic weaving. The color on the back side has been calculated to reflect your complexion beautifully. It looks classy when closed, and bright when opened. It's so cool to see such a casual performance brighten up a rainy city.

We put a lot of effort into not only the design, but also the design and material selection. The main rib is made of hard, lightweight, and rust-resistant carbon, and the middle rod is made of lightweight aluminum. The problem with a typical 16-rib umbrella is that it is inevitably heavy due to its design, but by using carefully selected materials, we have achieved both lightness and durability. The wooden handle combined with the Koshu-ori fabric gives it a classic look.
Since it is woven to the width of the umbrella on a loom specialized for umbrellas, there are no seams at the edges and the finish is beautiful.

The long umbrellas also have special craftsmanship. Time-consuming specifications that are rarely seen these days include potter's wheel wrapping, which carefully wraps the potter's wheel (the part you push up when opening the umbrella) to protect your fingers, and dowel wrapping, which protects the dowel (the part where the bones connect) with fabric. This is a craftsmanship that is only applied to luxury items. (Inside the umbrella, see image)

Dedicated to western umbrellas, sincere manufacturing

KOMIYA is a brand developed by Komiya Shoten, which started in Tokyo in 1930 as a manufacturer of Western umbrellas and shawls. Since our founding, we have continued to make only Western umbrellas, of which there are very few domestically produced umbrellas in Japan. When it comes to umbrellas used by common people in Japan at the time, the most common type of umbrella was the ``bangasa,'' which was made of a bamboo frame covered with Japanese paper and coated with oil. It was a high-class ornament that could only be owned by a limited number of people. Under these circumstances, Komiya Shoten began producing Western umbrellas using Koshu-ori from Yamanashi, his hometown. Koshu-ori is a fabric produced in the Koshu production area, which specializes in fine count fabrics, such as fabric for umbrellas and neckties. It is a textile with a long history and tradition, and was also called ``Kaiki'' in ancient times.

Shortly thereafter, Japan entered an era of war. Komiya Shoten also faced many difficulties, such as its store and home being burnt down in an air raid, and its ability to manufacture products as planned due to material controls. After the war, however, the store was rebuilt in Higashi-Nihonbashi amidst the burnt-out ruins, and the company started from scratch. will head towards reconstruction. In the 1950s and 1950s, Japan boasted the world's highest production, consumption, and export volume of umbrellas. There were more than 70 umbrella shops in the Higashi Nihonbashi area alone, where Komiya Shoten was located, and there were many umbrella craftsmen there, and the industry was full of energy. Then, with the oil crisis and the collapse of the bubble economy, many companies in the umbrella industry decided to shift their manufacturing to China and other Asian countries where labor costs were low. Many Japanese umbrella craftsmen were forced to go out of business because there was no place for them to work, and the umbrella shops that existed were going bankrupt one after another due to price collapse. Nowadays, there are only a few umbrella shops in Tokyo that make Japanese-made umbrellas. Komiya Shoten has been able to continue to operate as an umbrella shop, even though it has been affected by the turmoil of society.

No matter what era we live in, we will continue to uphold our tradition since our founding of ``manufacturing high-quality products in-house (within our own eyesight)," protect quality, and respond sincerely and sincerely to customer requests. We have earned trust by doing this. Never satisfied with the status quo, we have incorporated new and innovative technologies, such as durability against heavy rain and protection against increasingly strong ultraviolet rays. Against this historical backdrop, KOMIYA umbrellas have continued to be protected. Japanese-made umbrellas are certainly expensive, but they are made with traditional fabrics and techniques, and you can feel the careful handiwork of skilled Japanese craftsmen, making them ``life-long'' umbrellas that you'll want to use forever. Why not walk around the rainy city with such a KOMIYA umbrella?

ブランド紹介

KOMIYA

KOMIYA

Speaking of umbrellas used by Japanese commoners in the early Showa era when Komiya Shoten was established, "ban umbrellas" are generally made of oil-painted bamboo paper with Japanese paper and oil, such as silk and cotton on iron bones. The "Umbrella" was a luxury decoration that only a limited number of layers could have. Under the circumstances, the founder, Komiya Takamasa, began producing a Umbrella using the Koshu weave of Yamanashi, which is his hometown. This is the prototype of KOMIYA's umbrella. Since then I have always been dissatisfied with the current situation, and have interwoven new innovative technologies. Under such historical background, KOMIYA's umbrella has been kept protected. Based on the keywords "quality, trust, reform", we continue to produce "lifelong" umbrellas that you can use all the time as you can feel the polite handicraft unique to skilled Japanese craftsmen.
