The strength of a steamer is that you can taste the original flavor of ingredients. CYPRESS BAMBOO STEAMER confines umami and nutrients. When you open the lid, the steam and fragrance of the ingredients will spread out. The steamer would expand your cooking repertoire.

Yamaichi's CYPRESS BAMBOO STEAMER is made of cypress and bamboo. The thin plates of cypress called Kino Hinoki are boiled and soften, then are bent into the shape of a circle using a wooden roller. By layering the cypress plates that are carefully bent one by one, a strong frame for the steamer would be completed. The cypress, Kiso Hinoki, is taken from Nagano Prefecture of Japan where has rich forests of cypress. The wood is known for its high endurance.

The mesh lid is made of a double-layered bamboo. It allows excess steam to go through and prevents water droplets from falling onto the ingredients. In addition, the lid adjusts the moisture inside the entire steamer so that the ingredients would be evenly steamed even at low temperatures. You do not need oil for cooking so that the steamer makes a healthy meal. Carrots, potatoes, and broccoli, which are usually boiled in hot water, can be cooked by the steamer with soft texture and umami.

The nice thing about CYPRESS BAMBOO STEAMER is that you can add multiple layers. You can use up to three layers and make many dishes at once. When steaming is done, bring the steamer directly to a dining table. The steamer would be a nice gift for those who like cooking.

From Kiso, remarkable wood producing area

The land of Kiso, Nagano Prefecture, Japan still has deep mountains with large trees of old age. Five different kinds of wood are known to represent the Kiso valley, that is, Hinoki, Sawara, Nezuko, Asunaro, and Koyamaki. Hinoki (i.e., cypress) is treated as the highest quality building material and has been carefully cultivated since ancient times. It is said that "Kiso Hinoki" is still used at the transition of the Ise Jingu Naiku, which is held once every 20 years, and many other shrines and temples are built with Kiso Hinoki as the main material. For the sake of the blessed soil and harsh climate, many high-quality wooden materials are produced, and the fine wood-producing areas attract skilled artisans, and many woodwork products have been produced in this area since the Edo period.

Work that can only be done with trees

In the Kiso region, it takes time for trees to grow due to the steep terrain and severe climate, but wood grown in a harsh environment is very durable, and the wood itself has properties that can be used for a long time. While many mass-produced products are made of timber of unknown origin, YAMAICHI chooses only heartwood of Kiso Hinoki that has been grown more than 100 years. In pursuit of things that are glad to be wood, and things that can only be done with wood, YAMAICHI manufactures from traditional products such as chests and pail to products that are familiar to modern life like cutting boards.
