Brewing a cup of tea for a break from work or housework is a precious time to take a break from your busy schedule, not only to drink tea, but also to enjoy the aroma and the time it takes. While there are PET bottles and tea packets available for easy drinking, tea served in a kyusu (teapot) with a teacup and a teacup is a different kind of tea with a different taste.
The Zohogama Aka-Tsubaki Tea Cup Set is a set of a teapot and teacup with a deep, beautiful red and white camellia that will brighten your heart. The camellia depicted in this set is a flower that has been loved by the Japanese since ancient times, and is described in the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters) and Manyoshu (Anthology of Myriad Leaves), both of which originated in Japan, as a symbol of longevity. This tea drinking set boldly decorated with such camellias is a perfect design for today's life. While the motif is uniquely Japanese, it has a loveliness that is reminiscent of Scandinavian tableware, and is reminiscent of Zohogama's desire to bring a little "happiness" to as many people as possible at the table. The center of the lid, just at the knob, is also decorated with camellia, which draws the eye both when it is placed on the table and when tea is being poured.
The combination of red and white is auspicious. It is a perfect gift for those who cherish their tea time, or for celebrations such as marriages or housewarmings.
Special red from Zohogama
The beautiful, deep red color used for Zohogama ware is called "Zoho red," and it is produced from very precious bengara.
After about three years (1,000 days) of slow and careful grinding of bengara, the red paint is finally completed and transformed into various patterns by the hands of skilled artisans after a painstaking, mind-boggling preparation process. After firing, the color becomes a smooth, calm, and deep red. The red color produced over the years grows more beautiful and vivid with further use, making it a special red that can be enjoyed together with the passage of time. It is said that the more the red is used, the better the red will be. The longer and more labor-intensive this process is, the less it is used today.
Tableware that fulfills the beauty of use
Zohagama was established in 1970. After studying and training under a living national treasure, Zoho-gama received the highest award for ceramic design and was commissioned by a museum to produce copies of important cultural properties, attracting attention for his sense of style and skill. After that, the kiln was designated as the official kiln of the Gifu Prefectural Shinto Shrine Authority, and we have continued to produce reliable and stable products.
Compared to Kutani, Kyo-yaki, Arita-yaki, Shigaraki, and Bizen, Mino-yaki does not have a single style of pottery, but even in such a situation, Zohagama is a kiln that brings a little "happiness" to the dining table with as many people as possible. However, Zoho-gama is a kiln that sticks to the idea of "craftsmanship", painting, and Shu-kan-iri, etc., to bring a little "happiness" to as many people as possible.
It is neither mass-produced inexpensive items nor expensive works of art. It is because we aim to produce pottery that creates a gorgeous and enjoyable space at the dining table in daily life. Zohagama's tableware, which colors and enriches the dining table, seems to teach us about the time that flows leisurely in our daily lives, and the taste and beauty that come from that time. Please enjoy the carefully selected vermilion color and the patterns that gently add color to your life.
