A shining light for the future

Since its establishment in 1917, Asano Shoten has been making lanterns in the castle town of Gifu, a city rich in history and tradition. Most of the materials and parts are sourced locally in Gifu Prefecture, and the company protects and nurtures the historic Gifu lanterns by winding the strips and pasting translucently thin paper in a way that has been continued since the Edo period. Making use of the techniques passed down from generation to generation, the brand also works with designers to create lanterns as new lighting that is in tune with the modern era.
