ANDON TRIANGLE is a mix of modern design and lanterns, which symbolize the Japanese aesthetic. Lanterns are generally rectangular, but this lantern features a triangle, which is the shape that designer Daisaku Naga was most attracted to. The lantern blends naturally into any room with a harmonious Japanese and Western taste, and the light shining from the high-quality Mino washi paper brings peace of mind.
A lantern that fits into a modern lifestyle
ANDON TRIANGLE is a lamp that combines the Japanese charm of traditional crafts, Gifu lanterns, with modern design, and its sophisticated appearance and soft light soften the space.
It looks sturdy, but is very light and easy to carry, so you can move it around depending on your mood, place it on a desk as indirect lighting, or use it as a night light in the entrance or hallway. In addition, the light of the bulb can be turned on and off with a switch, and it is safe and secure because it does not use fire.
Designer Daisaku Cho (1921-2014) is one of the leading figures in the Japanese design world. He has worked on numerous architectural and furniture designs, and in recent years has also focused on redesigning his own furniture. ANDON TRIANGLE, which he designed with him, was produced as part of a lighting project that pursued the potential of traditional Japanese technology together with world-class designers, and is still made by skilled craftsmen with meticulous handwork.
A neat andon lantern that has been reborn in a modern style while retaining the atmosphere of a traditional andon. You will be soothed by the soft light that can be felt through the highly translucent Japanese paper. It gives a hotel-like impression whether the light is on or off, and is especially recommended for those who are particular about interior design. It also makes a great gift for family and friends.
Gifu lanterns, a world-class source of pride
Gifu lanterns are lanterns that are a world-class source of pride for Japan as a traditional craft. Made primarily from thin, high-quality Mino washi paper from the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture and bamboo grown in Gifu's rich natural environment, these lanterns feature delicate and elegant fire boxes painted with refreshing autumn grasses and landscapes, and are captivating with their beauty and sophistication.
The origins of Japanese lanterns date back about 900 years. In Gifu, lantern production began around the mid-Edo period, and lanterns made from high-quality Mino washi paper were presented to the shogunate from that time. The basic form of Gifu lanterns was completed around 1750, and around 1800, lanterns decorated with colorful paintings of flowers and plants became popular instead of white lanterns. Then, around 1850, thin paper and thin frame structures that emphasized appearance became mainstream, and this became the prototype for the delicate and elegant Gifu lanterns of today.
Light that illuminates the future
Since its founding in 1917, Asano Shoten has been making lanterns in the castle town of Gifu, a city rich in history and tradition. Most of the materials and parts are sourced locally in Gifu Prefecture, and the company protects and nurtures the historic Gifu lanterns by wrapping the bamboo strips and pasting them with thin, almost transparent paper using techniques passed down from the Edo period. The brand makes use of techniques passed down from generation to generation, and sometimes works with designers to create lanterns as new lighting that is in tune with the modern era.
