BOTANICAL DYEING KIT LINEN-COTTON SCARF is a kit that lets you enjoy botanical dyeing at home. It is the same dyeing MAITO uses for its products. You can dye a scarf with this kit and tools prepared at home. It is a kit that even beginners can easily challenge, therefore the kit is recommended as a gift or as an activity on a relaxing day.
Recommended for first-time users
The kit includes a linen-cotton scarf woven by Nara's weaving company, dyes, rubber gloves, and other tools which are necessary for dyeing. All you need to prepare at home is a stainless steel pot for boiling dye, a large bucket, and chopsticks (please refer to the product details).
The dyeing process is as follows.
(1) Preparation: Wash the fabric with water to prevent color unevenness.
(2) Color stop: Dissolve the attached medium dye in hot water and soak the fabric to stop the color.
(3) Dyeing: Boil the attached dye, dilute it with hot water, soak the dough, and dye it.
(4) Washing and drying: Remove the dye with clean water and dry in the shade.
Please be assured that the specific dyeing method is described in the illustrated manual. You can dye the stall in a simple single color by immersing it in the dye, or you can dye the gradation by using the attached clothespin (the instruction manual describes how to make the gradation). It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours for dyeing. Another feature of this item is that you can easily change the shade of color to your liking depending on the amount of dye and how to soak the stole.
The colors we handle are as follows.
- Yellow / Yamamomo dyeing: A typical yellow dye, which has water resistance and was also used for dyeing fishing nets.
- Orange / Akane dyeing: The oldest dye used in Japan. The red color of Japan's national flag.
- Purple / Suou dyeing: Widely used since the Edo period, it was used as a purple color to replace the expensive purple roots at that time.
- Gray / Yashabushi dyeing: It has been used as a black dyeing material to replace quince. Dyed in a slightly greenish-black.
- Pink / Cochineal dyeing: A dye derived from South America that has been used for a long time. Dye in bright pink.
The resulting linen-cotton scarf is a fabric that is slightly transparent over there, and the color of the plant dyeing appears beautifully. It is also attractive that the more you use it, the softer and softer the dough becomes. It's a stole that can be used all year round, and if you think it's dyed to your liking, you'll be even more attached to it.
You can try it as a home time activity, or give it to your family and friends as a birthday present or Mother's Day present.
Original color of the plant
A product of MAITO that has a pleasant gentle color of plants. The secret was in the thoughts of the creator who was particular about nature.
Mr. Maito Komuro, the representative who has been exposed to plant dyeing since he was little. As plant dyeing became widespread and became available to young people, he felt that there were few products that made use of the true goodness of plant dyeing, which prompted him to launch the brand. It was.
MAITO offers plant dyeing products that are dyed with 100% plant-extracted colors without the use of chemicals.
Plant dyeing, which extracts colors from plants, is a dyeing technique that has been handed down from ancient times. Normally, dyeing is done from cloth or thread, but in the case of MAITO, dyeing is done from raw cotton. By dyeing from the state of the cotton, various colors are mixed in one thread, creating a deeper shade.
By dyeing from raw cotton, it is possible to produce products that are resistant to fading so that MAITO gets a high evaluation of 4 or 5 while the dyeing fastness test of general plant dyeing is 3 or less. We continue to make discerning items that emphasize not only the appearance but also the feel and durability.

MAITO does not use chemicals but uses 100% natural colors derived from plants. Natural dyeing, which extracts colors from plants, has been handed down since ancient times. MAITO dyes raw cotton to express various colors on one thread.
