These days, we only see petroleum-based resins, but the ancestors of resins were made from plants. The challenge of synthetic resins began about 200 years ago. Artificial ivory made from cellulose (cotton) was invented, and this became the world's first resin. In this way, "acetate" is originally made from plant fibers, and even though it is called "resin," acetate is not a chemical fiber but a plant fiber made from cotton and high-purity pulp. Because it is a plant fiber, it is an organic matter just like humans, so it is gentle on the skin and warm even when it comes into direct contact with the skin.

MACHETE is an accessory brand founded in the United States in 2017 by designer Jennifer Matchett. After earning a degree in art history in Gainesville, Florida, Jennifer was inspired by her collection of antique and vintage jewelry and began designing her own accessories.

Although she herself likes tortoiseshell accessories, which are a simple and classic material, there are regulations for protecting sea turtles, and due to the serious impact on the environment, she felt that choosing tortoiseshell itself was unethical. She thought about making something similar out of other materials, and that's what led her to start using cellulose acetate, the brand's iconic material.
