Essential for Rainy Season: How to Care for Your RAINS Gear

"RAINS" was born in Denmark, a country with an average of 121 rainy days per year. Founded in 2012 by Philip Lotko and Daniel Hesselager, the brand was created to help people experience rain positively, in a country where the lack of sunlight has become a social issue, contributing to mental health struggles for many.

"On rainy days, don't people often feel reluctant to go outside, or find their mood turning gloomy?"
"Raincoats tend to be purely practical and convenient, but lack style, so young people don't want to wear them."

RAINS was created to transform this gloomy image associated with rain into something positive, giving practical raincoats a sense of fun and fashion so that rainy days can be enjoyed. Their pieces are fully functional as raincoats, yet work as versatile outerwear that can be worn whether it's raining or sunny.

・The width of the cuffs can be adjusted with snap buttons to prevent rainwater from getting in.

・Ventilation holes under the arms help prevent overheating and moisture buildup.

・Made from thin, lightweight 100% polyester.

・A slight stretch gives it a comfortable feel, just like regular clothing.

・Seamed parts such as the sleeves and hood are stitched together with thread and then specially bonded using ultrasonic technology, preventing water from seeping in through the seams.

To make sure it can be enjoyed as fashion, RAINS offers a wide range of variations, with stylish looks and colors suited for everyday use. The brand pays close attention to materials as well—its polyurethane coating creates a light, smooth texture that doesn't feel like typical rain gear. Wearing one of these on a cloudy day means you'll be prepared just in case, without sacrificing style.

Long Jacket (Raincoat)

A unisex, long-selling design, the Long Jacket has a smooth, comfortable feel, and since the body and sleeve lengths are cut relatively loose, it's a convenient design that families can share, with one jacket serving everyone.

A-line W Jacket (Raincoat)

The A-line W Jacket (Raincoat) is a lovely, feminine raincoat that flares gently out toward the hem, giving it a graceful silhouette. Made from the same fabric as the Long Jacket, its stylish look also makes it useful as a light outer layer during spring and autumn.

Cape (Raincoat)

Since you don't need to put your arms through sleeves, this cape can be worn over a bulky coat, or even over a shoulder bag or backpack. It's a convenient shape for anyone carrying a backpack or riding a bicycle.

Kano Overshirt

With a fabric feel unlike previous raincoats, this piece is smooth and lightweight. With four pockets to hold your belongings, it's ideal for walking, jogging, and other active scenes. It also makes a handy travel outer layer.

Boonie Hat

A rain hat—a well-known, handy item. Featuring visible stitching and a distinctively wide brim, it can be tied snugly under the chin with a cord, so you can feel secure even on windy days. Since there's no need to hold it like an umbrella, it's also popular for leisure activities such as hiking and other outdoor pursuits where you want your hands free.

Daily Care for Your RAINS Gear After Wearing

RAINS raincoats are highly fashionable and can be worn not only as rain gear but also as a light outer layer, which means they tend to be worn often. Here, we'll introduce how to care for them.

着用した後は、レインコートの表面の汚れや水滴を柔らかいタオルなどで 拭き取ってください。

While dirt from rain isn't always easy to see day to day, oils from skin contact can also reduce water repellency, so after wearing your raincoat, it's best to wipe off any surface dirt or water droplets with a soft towel.

ちょっとした「消しゴム(塩化ビニール樹脂)」を使うことで、汚れを取り除くことができます。

For minor marks such as scuff-like stains, you can remove them using a "rubber eraser (vinyl chloride resin)"—the kind commonly used as a stationery item. For larger or more stubborn stains, thoroughly remove the dirt using a neutral detergent.

石鹸水をタオルに染み込ませ優しく汚れを拭き取ります。

When stains are severe, soak a dry cloth or sponge in soapy water and gently wipe the surface. We recommend testing on an inconspicuous area first.

Washing Your RAINS Gear

Depending on how often you wear the item and how dirty it gets, washing is also recommended. Below is the care label attached to RAINS products. Please always check the care label before cleaning.

必ず洗濯絵表示を確認の上、お手入れをしてください。

First, let's go over what the label indicates. Since the water-repellent fabric can be damaged by improper handling, be sure to check whether machine washing is allowed, whether hand washing is possible, and follow the appropriate method.

1. Machine washable in "gentle cycle" mode, with water temperature up to 30°C.

2. Do not use bleach.

3. Do not tumble dry (do not use a dryer).

4. Do not iron.

5. Do not dry clean.

From here, we'll show you how we actually did it and share some key points. We filled a bucket large enough to hold the raincoat with tap water (below 30°C), and used a store-bought liquid detergent for delicate clothing along with a towel.

正しくお手入れをして、長く愛用していきましょう。

■Before washing

ファスナーなどの留め具やパーツで生地を痛めないように必ず閉じます。

Be sure to close zippers and other fasteners before washing so the fabric isn't damaged by any hardware or parts. Also check pockets to make sure nothing has been left inside.

■If washing by hand

ゆっくりと押したり持ち上げたりして汚れを取り除く「押し洗い」を行います。

Dissolve the detergent in water below 30°C. Fold the raincoat slightly, gently sink it into the water, and perform a "push wash," slowly pressing and lifting it to remove dirt. This step alone can remove a fair amount of grime.

■If using a washing machine

生地の負荷を軽らすために、「弱水流」モードで洗ってください。
If using a washing machine, fold the raincoat slightly and place it in a laundry net before putting it in the machine. To reduce stress on the fabric, wash using the "gentle water flow" mode. After washing, rinse thoroughly before spin-drying. There is no care label instruction specifically for spin-drying, but generally speaking, if the item can be machine-washed, it can also be machine spin-dried.

■Points to note when rinsing and spin-drying

・If detergent residue remains, it may reduce the water-repellent function, so be sure to rinse thoroughly before spin-drying.

・The water-repellent effect may weaken, so if using the washing machine's spin-dry function, keep it short—around 30 to 60 seconds.

・If you don't use the washing machine's spin-dry function, use a towel to absorb the moisture.

・Do not use detergents containing waterproofing additives, bleach, or fabric softener, as these may damage the fabric.

■When drying

Shape the raincoat before hanging it to dry. We recommend drying it in the shade so the fabric isn't damaged by UV rays. If drying indoors and water drips down, it's a good idea to lay down newspaper or a towel directly underneath the raincoat for peace of mind.

※Do not iron or tumble dry the raincoat, as this may damage the fabric or melt the nylon outer layer.

■For long-term storage

We recommend storing the raincoat in an unfolded state, such as on a hanger. Avoid leaving it in places with excessive humidity or in a car interior, which can get very hot, as these conditions will damage the fabric.

※Since the fabric already has a water-repellent function, do not use waterproofing spray.

These are the RAINS raincoats we hope you'll care for properly and enjoy using for a long time.
