KUTANI CHOEMON

POTTERY HINA DOLL

Hina dolls packed with Kutani ware techniques

Hina dolls are displayed to wish for the healthy growth of children. The doll's happy and adorable expression will naturally bring a smile to anyone looking at it. When we think of hina dolls, we tend to think of them as formal and formal, with a set time to put them out, but they were originally simple dolls made of paper or wood that were used to ward off evil spirits and ward off disasters. Why not feel free to display them as seasonal interior decorations, wishing for a healthy life for yourself and those around you?

Hina dolls have changed from the previous style of tiered decoration with multiple dolls and accessories, to a variety of different sizes and materials that are now available to suit changing lifestyles. This time, ZUTTO will be introducing Kutani-yaki hina dolls from the Kamidechoemon kiln. Beautiful painting that inherits the tradition of Kutani ware, delicate workmanship that clearly shows that each piece is carefully finished by a craftsman, and above all, its adorable appearance captivates those who look at it.

Not only is it perfect for children and grandchildren who are celebrating their first festival this year, but it also has fewer parts and is easy to clean, so it can be used easily by people who used to display it every year when their children were small, but have fewer opportunities to display it as they grow older. It's a Hina doll. Please enjoy it as an interior decoration for your home that heralds the coming of the season.

Tradition to modern times

``Tsukisome Hina'' is made by Kamide Choemon Kiln every year in time for the Peach Festival. This Hina doll is decorated with the Imperial Prince's decoration, with only the male doll (Obina) and female doll (Mebina) placed flat. ``Momozome'' is the name of an old Japanese color, and refers to a pale pink color, and peach-dyed chicks are characterized by their slightly pink cheeks. The way they look a little shy, with their eyes lowered and their mouths covered with a fan or scepter, is so endearing, and just looking at it brings a smile to your face.

Beautifully delicately painted peach-dyed hina pine, plum, pine, and wisteria. The female doll's kimono has a pine and plum pattern, and the male doll's kimono has a pine and wisteria pattern. Each piece is carefully and gently drawn, and the back view is also attractive. The Shinno sake cup is typical of the Kamide Choemon kiln, which has been making Japanese cuisine tableware for a long time, and can be displayed in a cup instead of a stand.

The peach-dyed chicks are housed in a wooden box with a lining attached, and the wooden box can also be used as a display stand. Because of its small size, it can be displayed without taking up much space, so it can be displayed in small spaces such as entrances as seasonal interior decoration. Although it is small enough to fit in your hand, it is made with great care down to the details such as the decoration on the head. However, the crown, fan, and scepter are extremely fragile, so please handle them with care.

Tradition to modern times

Kamide Choemon Kiln was founded in Terai Village, Nomi District, Ishikawa Prefecture (currently Terai Town, Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture) in 1891. A long-established Kutani ware kiln with a history of over 135 years, it is a long-established company that carries out integrated production from porcelain molding to painting. The handmade and hand-painted products are attractive because of their colorful overglazes, deep dyeing, and above all, their durable and beautiful fabrics. The long-established store, which has been in operation for six generations, has recently begun new initiatives, producing Kutani ware that is in tune with modern times. It is typical of a pottery that has continued to protect itself since its founding in 1891, and while making use of the manufacturing method of the traditional craft "Kutani ware", each piece is designed in colors, shapes, and handwritten designs that are suitable for modern life. Even without it, it has a mysterious charm that attracts both the viewer and the user.

Kutani ware representing Japan

Kutani ware, like other pottery, began with people shaping and painting it by hand.
It is said that during the Edo period, the Maeda family, the lords of the Kaga domain, discovered pottery stone and began making porcelain.Afterwards, they learned the technique of ceramics in Bizen Arita, and it is said that it spread to vessels for enjoying tea. Its special feature is that it is easy to use as tableware and is pleasing to the eye by adding various patterns to the clear white base, and the coloring that stands out against the white background of the hard glassy material of porcelain is attractive.

Kamidechoemongama is a kiln that has mainly manufactured and sold arts and crafts, Japanese cuisine tableware, and everyday tableware, and continues to maintain the tradition of Kutani ware. doing.
Because it is hand-painted, no two are alike. The value of each item is that the painting changes depending on the craftsman who worked on it and the time of manufacture.
The reason why Kamide Choemon Gama is so particular about hand-painting is because they believe that the human hand has great potential. People are overwhelmed by the warmth, familiarity, taste, skill, and precision of handmade items. Kamidechoemongama continues to create and protect carefully hand-painted pottery with the belief that ``whatever people create has great power to move hearts, no matter the era.
